eFaktura.nl or booxx?

eFaktura.nl is an invoicing and administration app for businesses in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Poland and Luxembourg, and you can use it in Polish, Hungarian and Romanian too. So the difference is not the language, but what happens after the invoice.

Short answer

eFaktura.nl is an invoicing and administration app for businesses in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Poland and Luxembourg, available in Polish, English, Dutch, German, Hungarian, Romanian, Ukrainian, Russian, Slovak and French. You use it to write invoices and quotes in five invoice languages, send them via Peppol as well, and keep track of expenses, hours and mileage. There is a free plan (one invoice a month) and paid plans at €11.99, €16.99 and €24.99 a month excl. VAT, with a 30-day free trial without payment details. eFaktura.nl does not mention bookkeeping with a ledger, a VAT return or bank reconciliation: you give your bookkeeper access to your invoices and expenses, and they do the rest. The booxx package costs €19 a month and is full double-entry bookkeeping in five languages — Dutch, English, Polish, Hungarian and Romanian — with bank reconciliation, VAT return, annual accounts and audit file, translated down to the ledger accounts. If a bookkeeper keeps your books and you mainly want to invoice quickly, write quotes and log mileage, eFaktura.nl is the better and cheaper fit; if you want to keep your own books, in your own language, you need more than an invoicing app.

booxx

The package booxx has two plans: Standard (€19 a month, everything included, with VAT returns and automatic bank reconciliation) and Dormant (€4 a month, read-only for a set of books that is temporarily dormant). You start with a 90-day trial of the full product, with no payment method up front; nothing is charged during that period, so there is nothing to cancel. All amounts are per set of books per month, excluding VAT, and cancellable monthly. There are no setup fees. Standard has no limits at all: unlimited invoices, entries and bank transactions, and unlimited users — colleagues and your accountant work alongside you at no extra cost.

Accounting software that speaks your language

Five languages, and not just in the menus: the ledger accounts, the guidance on every VAT box and your invoices are in the language you read. The bookkeeping underneath stays Dutch, because the rules are.

Questions about switching

Can I bring my bookkeeping with me if I switch?

Yes. Every Dutch accounting package can produce an audit file (XAF) — that's a legal requirement. You import it here, including your chart of accounts, your entries and your open items.

Can I switch halfway through the year?

Yes. You pick a start date, import your audit file or your opening balance, and post here from that point on. The periods you've already filed with your previous package stay there.

Will my bookkeeper work with this?

They can see your books if you let them in, and they get the audit file in the format they're used to. If they'd rather work in their own package, that audit file is exactly what they need.

Why do you name your competitors?

Because you're going to compare anyway, and because we aren't better on every point. Above, per package, you'll find when you're better off there. That's fairer, and it saves you a month of trying things out.
