Jortt or booxx?

Jortt goes furthest on automatic posting and on tax reporting — including a head start on your income tax return. It works in Dutch and English, and that's where it stops — which is exactly the point.

Short answer

Jortt is a Dutch accounting package with a strong focus on automatic posting and tax reporting, with a free entry plan and paid plans from €21.95 a month (Jortt ZZP, up to 250 entries a month) to €39.95 a month. It works in Dutch and English. The package booxx costs €19 a month with no entry cap and works in five languages, down to the ledger accounts and the outgoing email. If you want maximum automation and tax reporting in Dutch, Jortt is stronger; if you read neither Dutch nor English, it isn't an option. You bring your old books along as an audit file (XAF); it is imported here, ledger and open items included.

Choose Jortt if…

  • you read Dutch and want to post as little as possible yourself;
  • you value a worked-out head start on your income tax return;
  • you want time tracking and projects in the same package;
  • you only want to invoice and track hours — the free plan does that, without bookkeeping.

Choose us if…

  • Dutch isn't your language and you still want to do your own posting;
  • you have more than 250 entries a month;
  • your invoices need to go out in Polish, Hungarian or Romanian;
  • you want to import your existing books as an audit file instead of retyping them;
  • your books are dormant for part of the year.

eFaktura.nl

Not a bookkeeping package but an invoicing app — and one that does speak Polish, Hungarian and Romanian. It does not mention bookkeeping: you share invoices and expenses with your bookkeeper.

booxx

The package booxx has two plans: Standard (€19 a month, everything included, with VAT returns and automatic bank reconciliation) and Dormant (€4 a month, read-only for a set of books that is temporarily dormant). You start with a 90-day trial of the full product, with no payment method up front; nothing is charged during that period, so there is nothing to cancel. All amounts are per set of books per month, excluding VAT, and cancellable monthly. There are no setup fees. Standard has no limits at all: unlimited invoices, entries and bank transactions, and unlimited users — colleagues and your accountant work alongside you at no extra cost.

Accounting software that speaks your language

Five languages, and not just in the menus: the ledger accounts, the guidance on every VAT box and your invoices are in the language you read. The bookkeeping underneath stays Dutch, because the rules are.

Questions about switching

Can I bring my bookkeeping with me if I switch?

Yes. Every Dutch accounting package can produce an audit file (XAF) — that's a legal requirement. You import it here, including your chart of accounts, your entries and your open items.

Can I switch halfway through the year?

Yes. You pick a start date, import your audit file or your opening balance, and post here from that point on. The periods you've already filed with your previous package stay there.

Will my bookkeeper work with this?

They can see your books if you let them in, and they get the audit file in the format they're used to. If they'd rather work in their own package, that audit file is exactly what they need.

Why do you name your competitors?

Because you're going to compare anyway, and because we aren't better on every point. Above, per package, you'll find when you're better off there. That's fairer, and it saves you a month of trying things out.
